East zone concessionaire Manila Water Co. Inc. assured Quezon City residents the safety of its wastewater facilities through its sewer replacement projects.
The Kalayaan Sewer Replacement Packages 2 and 3 will have an allocation budget of P113 million and P158 million, respectively, with an overall total of P271 million.
“The implementation of Package 2 and Package 3 of the Kalayaan Sewer Replacement Project is essential for ensuring a reliable and efficient sewage system and will be beneficial to Manila Water customers in areas within Quezon City,” Manila Water said.
According to Manila Water, the Kalayaan Sewer Replacement Package 2 would benefit over 600 households including the streets of Maalalahanin, Mabait, Magiting, Malihim, Malingap, and Matahimik in Sikatuna Village, Teacher’s Village. This project is around 1.95 kilometers (km) in length and was finished last February.
Meanwhile, the 3.23 km Kalayaan Sewer Replacement Package 3 will replace the sewerage system of 800 households in the streets of Masambahin, Maningning, Madasalin, Mapagkanggawa, Maimpok, Matipid, Malihim, and Mapagkumbaba.
Rectification is set to be completed within the second quarter of this year.
“Both sewer line packages include the replacement of the old concrete pipes with new and more cost-effective PVC pipes that will provide better quality sewer services to the growing number of residential houses in the busy district of Quezon City,” Manila Water explained.
Other rectification efforts include the manhole installation, clean-out installation, transfer of service connection, and connection of unsewered households and establishments.
Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Corporate Communications Affairs Director said that they are lessening their environmental impact through the wastewater enhancement projects.
“These projects on sewer line enhancements form part of Manila Water’s big push to protect community health and promote environmental sustainability,” he added.
