Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac faces the Commission on Appointments’ (CA) Committee on Labor, Employment, Social Welfare and Migrant Workers on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The CA panel deferred the deliberation on Cacdac's ad interim appointment “due to lack of material time.”

In an interview, newly-installed Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero confirmed the deferment of Cacdac’s appointment.

“It was deferred today kaya hindi ko pa ginagamit ang salitang (that’s why I don’t use the word) bypass. It was deferred today, hindi ko pa alam kung magkakaroon bukas, depende kung magbago ang posisyon ng House (I do not know what will happen tomorrow, it depends if the House’s position changes),” Escudero said.

“Kung magbago ang posisyon ng House, eh di magco-convene kami bukas. Nandito lang naman kami at mako-confirm pa rin namin siya bukas at hindi siya maba-bypass (If the House’s position changes, then we will convene tomorrow. We are just here, and we can still confirm his nomination tomorrow and he won’t be bypassed),” he added.

It was SAGIP Rep. Rodante Marcoleta who filed a motion to suspend Cacdac’s appointing during the CA committee on labor hearing due to lack of time.
