43 areas may experience ‘dangerous’ heat index on May 23


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 43 areas may still experience a heat index that is considered “dangerous” on Thursday, May 23.

The heat index in Guiuan, Eastern Samar may reach 47°C, while it may reach 46°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Aparri, Cagayan; and Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte.

Meanwhile, it may reach 45°C in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Aborlan, Palawan; Cuyo, Palawan; Virac (Synop), Catanduanes; Roxas City, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; and Dumangas, Iloilo.

Bacnotan, La Union; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; ISU Echague, Isabela; Iba, Zambales; Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental; and Maasin, Southern Leyte may experience a 44°C heat index.

The state weather bureau added that Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Pasay City, Metro Manila; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay Olongapo City; Alabat, Quezon; Coron, Palawan; Masbate City, Masbate; Mambusao, Capiz; Siquijor, Siquijor; Catarman, Northern Samar; and Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte may have a heat index of 43°C.

Meanwhile, a 42°C heat index may be recorded in Science Garden Quezon City, Metro Manila; Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Calayan, Cagayan; NVSU Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya; Baler (Radar), Aurora; Casiguran, Aurora; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Daet, Camarines Norte; Legazpi City, Albay; Catbalogan, Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur.
