P2.4-M marijuana uprooted in San Carlos City


BACOLOD CITY – Police uprooted a total of 132 fully grown marijuana plants worth P2.4 million in Purok Mangium, Sitio Bedio, Barangay Codcod, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, May 14.

Police arrested a 38-year-old farmer and his 28-year-old companion, both residents of Barangay Codcod.

Police Lt. Col. Nazer Canja, San Carlos police chief, said 20 kilos of marijuana plants were accidentally discovered while they were conducting an operation against a wanted person in the area.

Also recovered from the younger suspect were a .45 caliber pistol, a magazine, and three bullets.

Canja said the suspects had been allegedly cultivating marijuana and harvested some of them.

He said that this is the fourth discovery of a marijuana plantation in the city since 2020.

Drug charges are being readied against the two suspects. An additional case for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition will be filed against the younger suspect.
