Mayor Honey announces new operating hours of Manila library

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan announced on Friday, May 10, that the Manila City Library (MCL) has new operating hours in view of the adjustment of the work schedule in the local government.

Lacuna-Pangan said the city's main library, located on Taft Avenue in Ermita, will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every Monday to Saturday.

Other MCL libraries will only be open every Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

She noted that the libraries are closed every holiday.

MCL said that the new operating hours aim to accommodate more library users.

The mayor said that reading physical books can give readers certain knowledge and experience that they cannot gain from the internet.

Aside from that, she also said that not everything that can be found on the internet is true, and some information that it offers may not be enough.

MCL head Mylene Villanueva said they have already visited 167 barangays and 11 schools in the city to personally bring the library to the people.

The mayor also assured that the MCL will continuously provide quality educational services that can help raise the level of intellect of the students in the city.

The MCL has received various recognitions from the national government in recent years because of the services that it provides.
