This is the most number of teams that Touch Association Pilipinas (TAP) is sending as they aim to make waves in the sport not only in the country, but also in the international scene.

They will compete in the men’s women’s and mixed open division.

According to TAP chairman Colin Steley, they have around nine to 10 teams registered around the country.

They also hold monthly competitions.

“We are trying to establish that pathway for those people who want to try this sport to join in its highest level, na kaya nating marating ang World Cup,” TAP player Carl Majabague said during the PSA Forum last Tuesday, April 30.

The country has already competed in the two previous Worlds with a ninth place finish in mixed open and 12th in women’s open in the 2015 Australia edition.

The men’s team, meanwhile, placed sixth and the women’s open settled for 15th in the 2019 edition held in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

“Yung journey natin, it doesn’t end when the world cup ends. So, yung ultimate goal natin pagkatapos ng world cup, yung mga players, coaches, and officials natin ay maka-give back sa kanila-kanilang community at makabahagi ng kanilang natutunan,” player Pauline Fernandez said.

"On behalf of Touch Pilipinas, we ask for your support in growing the game," she added.

Powerhouse teams from Australia, Japan, England, South Africa and New Zealand are taking part in the latest edition.

The country is currently ranked second behind Singapore in Southeast Asia and third in Asia, where the Japanese are on top.
