DSWD releases P11 M in aid for El Niño-affected families in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released more than P11 million in aid to families affected by the El Niño climate phenomenon in Western Visayas region.

“Responding to (the needs) of El Niño-affected families is our priority. We are doing our best to help them thrive amid this phenomenon and usher them toward survival and recovery,” said DSWD-6 Regional Director Carmelo Nochete.

The financial assistance was released via the Early Recovery and Rehabilitation Section (ERRS) of the DSWD-6 Disaster Response Management Division.

The DSWD-6 implemented of Food for Work and Food for Training Programs in selected localities of the region for the first quarter of 2024.

Bulk of the funding went to beneficiaries of the Food for Work program. More than P7.9 million worth of family food packs were given to select individuals who rendered work including clearing and rehabilitation of roads and canals.

Family food packs worth P3.15 million were distributed to 5,103 beneficiaries as part of the Food for Training program in exchange for participating in training for handling evacuation centers during emergencies and calamities and the importance of the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) Reporting on all disaster-related incidents.
