Bishop Alminaza called for the praying of the ‘Prayer for Peace and Social Transformation’ in churches during the month long observance.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines approved the observance of Good Governance Month from Good Shepherd Sunday until the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus during its 127th plenary assembly in January.

Caritas Philippines released a Pastoral Statement for the observance on Good Shepherd Sunday which was read in all holy masses including the Prayer for Peace and Social Transformation.

“Good Governance Month seeks to promote an orderly, honest and transparent governance particularly among elected officials in the country,” said Bishop Alminaza over Radio Veritas.

Part of the prayer for the observance seeks the guidance of the Holy Spirit for public officials in the performance of their duties which, the Church leader stressed must be centered on the common good.

“Public officials are like shepherds in the communities where they serve. They must protect and look after the welfare of their flock and defend them from injustice and abuses,” the bishop said.
