Alon Yuan Jucutan, 18, tallied 700 points in the 75-men single compound event to smash his previous mark of 673 in the 2023 World Youth Archery Championships in Limerick, Ireland where he landed at 9th place – the highest finish by a Filipino archer in the tournament.

The Baguio City marksman put himself in the 35th position and will face Mohd Juwaidi Mas Mazuki on Thursday, April 25, in the eliminations.

Andrei Olano meets Turkey’s Batuhan Agcaoglu while Paul Marton Dela Cruz will lock horns with South Korea’s Choi Yonghee.

Meanwhile, the same troika of Jucutan, Olano and Dela Cruz, who was an Asian Games bronze medalist, accumulated 2093 points in the compound men’s team category to eclipse a 6-year PH record in the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia where the Nationals set 2085 points.

Dela Cruz was part of that trio alongside Earl Yap and Joseph Vicencio.

Other Filipino bets in the likes of Pia and Gabby Bidaure, Keith Nawew and Jason Feliciano are competing as of presstime.

The tournament has two remaining legs for the upcoming months, including its second part in Yecheon, South Korea from  May 21 to 26, and its third and final stage on June 18 in Antalya, Turkey.
