HackforGov 2024 is a nationwide cybersecurity competition organized by the Cybersecurity Bureau - Philippine National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT/CERT-PH). The event aims to raise awareness among students about the importance of cybersecurity and provide hands-on experience in combating virtual threats.

Initially launched in 2019, the competition was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic but resumed in 2023. Winners have the opportunity to represent the Philippines at international events, a testament to their skills and dedication. This not only enhances the country's cybersecurity readiness but also fosters collaboration among government agencies, making their participation in HackforGov a motivating experience.

HackforGov 2024, with a theme "Today's Generation, Tomorrow's Champion: Shaping the Future of Cybersecurity through Shared Responsibility," encourages participants to tackle real-world cybersecurity challenges. This makes their participation not just a competition but a practical step towards a more secure digital future, where their skills and knowledge can make a real difference.

DICT Undersecretary for Infostructure Management, Cybersecurity, and Upskilling Jeffrey Ian C. Dy said "Boosting our ethical hacking skills is key to crafting a brighter future for our nation."

The importance of educating youth about cybersecurity cannot be overstated. Dy added that "as digital natives, young individuals are not just the most vulnerable but also the most capable of safeguarding the digital landscape". 

Initiatives like HackforGov serve as crucial platforms for imparting practical knowledge and fostering a culture of shared responsibility. By engaging students in hands-on experiences, the event aims to cultivate a generation of ethical leaders who can navigate and protect our increasingly interconnected world, making them the true champions of cybersecurity.

HackforGov 2024 welcomes college and university students under 29, including senior high school students, to participate and represent their schools. The competition will kick off in Manila, with regional qualifiers to follow, ensuring nationwide engagement. Teams of four will face challenges across various cybersecurity categories, with the top performers advancing to the finals and potentially representing the Philippines on the international stage.

HackforGov 2024 follows a Capture the Flag (CTF) format with challenges across various cybersecurity categories. The top-scoring team from each region will proceed to the finals, with the possibility of wildcard entries for high-performing individuals. The event emphasizes teamwork, technical skills, and ethical leadership in cybersecurity.
