The local government of Manila declared the suspension of face-to-face classes at all levels in public and private schools in the city on Wednesday, April 24, due to the projected extreme heat.
The city government made the announcement on Tuesday, April 23, after the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) forecast a dangerous heat index level of 43 degrees Celsius for Wednesday.
It advised all schools to shift to asynchronous or online classes.
As of 2 p.m. on Tuesday, a 41-degree Celsius heat index was recorded by Manila DRRMO.
Manila DRRMO reminded again the public to stay hydrated and to avoid outdoor activities.
