Wanted communist fighter falls in Butuan


BUTUAN CITY – Police caught a wanted New People’s Army (NPA) member in Purok 2, Barangay Libertad, this city, on Monday, April 1.

Police Regional Office 13-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said the 35-year-old suspect, Gam, from Compostela, Davao de Oro, was nabbed by the Butuan City Police Office-Station 3 at 12:05 a.m. 

“The suspect did not resist arrest when our lawmen implemented the warrant of arrest,” Ometer said.

Ometer said the suspect was a member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) and Periodic Status Report-listed.

He was arrested on a warrant issued by the 10th Judicial Region, Branch 6, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur for attempted murder and murder with no bail recommended.

PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft said the suspect was allegedly involved in a shooting incident on Nov. 29, 2011 in Trento town, Agusan del Sur in which a man was killed and another was injured.

The fatality’s motorcycle was set on fire by the NPA during the incident, Kraft said.

“As we continue to witness major setbacks against the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and see their inevitable downfall, PNP-Caraga commits to a more aggressive fight against criminality and terrorism,” Kraft said.
