  • For the newly signed deal with Trina Solar, the PetroGreen projects to be supplied with solar PV modules will be its installations in Isabela, Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan with aggregate capacity of 117 megawatts.
  • The solar farm developments will require more than 129,000 PV modules.

China-headquartered Trina Solar, which has suite of businesses on solar photovoltaics (PVs) and energy storage solutions, will be providing solar cell panels to underpin the commercial developments of the solar projects of PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC), the renewable energy investment arm of publicly listed PetroEnergy Resources Corporation of the Yuchengco group.

The companies jointly announced in a media statement that the master supply agreement (MSA) inked by the parties sets forth that Trina Solar will be providing the PV modules for 117 megawatts of the blueprinted solar ventures by Rizal Green Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of PGEC.

The contract was signed between Trina Solar Asia Pacific President Todd Li and PetroGreen Vice President for Commercial Operations & Business Development Maria Victoria M. Olivar.

For the newly signed deal with Trina Solar, the PetroGreen projects to be supplied with solar PV modules will be its installations in Isabela, Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan.

According to Trina Solar, “the agreement allows PetroGreen to explore a range of module types offered by Trina Solar, including its industry-leading n-type iTOPCon advanced cell technology, Vertex products which can be used for various applications like utility and commercial and industrial (C&I).”

It emphasized that such scale of flexibility “allows PetroGreen to select the most suitable modules for its projects, helping to optimize performance and efficiency;” plus it gives option to the project sponsor-firm to explore “solar tracker systems and battery energy storage systems (BESS),” as part of solutions that it can integrate into its facilities.

PetroGreen, for its part, specified that the three new projects will require “more than 129,000 modules, generating an estimated annual energy yield of 129.14-gigawatt hours.”

Upon completion, the new solar farms of the Yuchengco group would be able to satiate the electricity requirements of at least 53,800 residential end-users, as reckoned on the average power consumption of households.

The Yuchengco firm, in particular, indicated that its partnership with Trina Solar as its supplier of solar panels would date back to 2015 when PetroGreen firmed up the commercial development of its 27MW Dagohoy solar farm project in Bohol.

“This project – which is reportedly the first large-scale solar farm on the island – is due to be completed this year. It aims to help the island province reduce its dependence on fossil fuels,” PetroGreen said.

Olivar asserted “our continued partnership with Trina Solar signifies the high importance we put into ensuring that highest quality components and innovative technologies are deployed in our solar projects.”

Elva Wang, head of Southeast Asia for Trina Solar Asia Pacific, primarily highlighted the Philippines “immense potential to harness solar energy to meet its rising energy demands.”

She qualified that their deal with PGEC “aligns with Trina Solar's mission to drive sustainable development through innovative solar solutions,” adding that “by expanding our footprint in the Philippines and forging long-term partnerships with industry leaders like PetroGreen, we are confident that together, we can significantly contribute to the Philippines’ clean energy goals and solidify Trina Solar’s position as a key player in the country’s solar revolution.”
