There’s simply no slowing down Mark Barroca. Not his age nor a wrist injury on his shooting hand.

The veteran playmaker continued to lead by example for Magnolia, showing the way in his team’s 81-77 victory over Blackwater on Wednesday, April 17.

Barroca, playing through pain and all, continued with his role to the Hotshots' three-game winning run after finishing with 19 points for his second straight Best Player of the Game citation.

It was a fitting follow up to his career-high tying 27 points in the win against Phoenix.

The 37-year-old guard said the series of big games simply comes from the motivation to do well and compete against the younger players of the league. 

“Motivation ko na every game and every practice na mag compete ako kasi ako yung tao na gusto ko yung mga challenge syempre mga bata para makita ko rin hanggang saan pa ako maglalaro,” said Barroca.

“As a leader ipapakita ko sa team na kaya ko magcompete kahit mayroon akong nararamdaman as a leader syempre kailangan mo ipakita iyon para madala mo sila,” he added.

Barroca’s effort did not go unnoticed as Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero raved at Barroca’s willingness to sacrifice and play through the pain just to prove a point and be a role model to the rest of his teammates.

“I’m very thankful to Mark kasi alam ko rin yung nararamdaman niya, Italked to him about it being the leader is to show the passion yung guts and yung grit nya,” said Victolero 

“Kumbaga talaga binibigay niyang lahat alam naman naming masakit pero sabi ko sa kanya  wala siyang choice sya yung leader sya yung titingnan dito,” he added.

“They will say ito nga injury na naglalaro pa eh tao pa kayang walang injury so very thankful ako sa kanya dahil sa sakripisyo nya sa team.”
