The Las Piñas City government announced that they have standby vehicles for immediate deployment to help commuters who will be stranded due to the nationwide strike of Manibela and Piston on April 15 and 16.
The Manibela and Piston transport groups will stage a nationwide strike in protest of the government’s phaseout of public utility jeepneys (PUJs).
The city’s public information chief, Paul Ahljay San Miguel, said the city government is ready to deploy vehicles to provide "libreng sakay" in case it is needed to help ferry passengers go to their destination.
San Miguel said that there will be some jeepneys that will continue to serve passengers.
He said the Department of Education (DepEd) also suspended the face-to-face classes in all public schools on April 15 and 16.
Public schools were advised to implement asynchronous classes or distance learning.
"In order to allow learners to complete pending assignments, projects, and other requirements as the end of school year is fast-approaching, all public schools nationwide shall implement asynchronous classes/ distance learning on April 15 to 16," according to DepEd.
The PIO chief said that private schools have the discretion to implement the same.
San Miguel said the implementation of e-trikes and e-bike ban on main thoroughfares in the city does not allow them to pass along Alabang-Zapote Road.
He also said the city is also on the stage of reminding the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to prohibit e-trikes and e-bikes along the main road, however, no place in the city was mentioned.
The PIO chief said they will strictly follow if the MMDA releases a list of places in Las Piñas, in which e-trikes and e-bikes will be prohibited.
