Another 5.1-magnitude quake recorded on April 11


A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Davao de Oro at 11:33 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs located the epicenter one kilometer southeast of New Bataan, Davao De Oro. 

The tremor with a shallow depth of eight kilometers was tectonic or caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

Phivolcs said it was “strong” at Intensity V in Pantukan, Mabini, and Maco, Davao de Oro. 

It was also “moderately strong” at Intensity IV in City of Tagum, Davao de Oro and City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur.

Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded  Intensity V in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; 

Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in City of Digos, Davao City, Matanao, and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur and in Malungon, Sarangani. 

Phivolcs said no damage to properties was expected, while it warned the public of possible aftershocks. 

It also detected a magnitude 5.1 earthquake that struck Eastern Samar at 12:20 a.m. on Thursday.
