A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Eastern Samar at 12:20 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs located the earthquake’s epicenter 53 kilometers (km) southeast of Dolores, Eastern Samar. It was initially recorded at magnitude 5.3.
The quake, which occurred at a depth of 25 km, was tectonic or caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Phivolcs said the tremor was “weak” at Intensity III in Can-Avid, Eastern Samar and Dulag, Leyte.
It was also “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Alangalang, Abuyog, and Hilongos, Leyte, while it was “scarcely perceptible” at Intensity I in Quinapondan, Eastern Samar; Leyte, Carigara, Mahaplag, and Albuera, Leyte; Villareal, Samar; and Sogod, Southern Leyte.
Phivolcs said no damage to properties were expected, but aftershocks may occur.
