The giant-slaying Filipinas just couldn’t sustain their blistering run to the knockout stages as the eighth seed Taiwanese proved to be a tough nut to crack behind the combined effort of Hung-Ting Kuo and Yu Chieh Chen.

The two joined hands in the back-breaking 9-2 run that allowed Chinese Taipei to break away from a 5-5 deadlock at the 7:36 mark of the contest. They proved to be the biggest thorns as they finished with eight points apiece.

Gilas never recovered from there as the Filipinas, who pulled off massive upsets one after the other to top Pool C, simply lost steam with usual top scorers Mikka Cacho and Jhazmin Joson both limited to just three and one point, respectively.

The loss wasted the splendid showing for Gilas Women who climbed their way to the quarterfinals from the qualifying draw. There, the cagebelles swept their assignment, defeating Tahiti, Maldives and Kazakhstan.

The hot run didn’t stop there after Gilas pulled the rug from under third seed Mongolia and sixth seed Malaysia to set up the quarters clash against Taiwan which only  placed second in  Pool A.
