CEBU CITY – Police visibility will be increased in churches and other public places to ensure a peaceful observance of the Holy Week here.
Police Lt. Col. Janette Rafter, Deputy City Director for Operations of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said at least 300 policemen will be deployed in various areas here starting Wednesday, March 27.

Rafter said the CCPO has already identified 33 churches in this city where more police visibility is needed. “We will put up police assistance desks in these churches,” said Rafter.
Policemen who were assigned as beat patrols and tactical motor-riding units will keep their usual assignments.
To maximize its personnel, those who are assigned in offices for administrative duties will be deployed on the ground during the Holy Week, said Rafter.
Rafter said the CCPO has not requested additional personnel as an augmentation force from the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas as it has sufficient personnel. “We will be maximizing the deployment of our personnel, especially those who are not so busy during those days.” Rafter said.
Law enforcement operations against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, loose firearms, and wanted persons here will continue even if the police will be busy during the Holy Week, said Rafter.
The CCPO has coordinated with barangay public safety officers and other force multipliers to help keep this city peaceful.
Rafter advised those who will be on vacation to secure their houses while they are away. “Let us also be individually security and safety conscious when it comes to securing our properties,” said Rafter.
