2 bushfires hit Zamboanga City


ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two bushfires simultaneously hit this city on Thursday, March 21.

The first occurred at around 11 a.m. near the boundary of Barangays Putik and Tugbungan.

It destroyed almost two hectares of cogon grass, coconuts trees, bushes, and grass.

Witnesses attributed the fire to children burning garbage that spread to dried up patches of grass.

Firemen battled the fire which lasted for almost six hours.

TWO bushfires struck Zamboanga City on Thursday, March 21.

The second bushfire was reportedly started by a man suffering from a mental problem at around 12 noon in Barangay Culianan in the east coast.

It razed half hectare of bushes and grass and was put out after two hours.

Zamboanga City is in a state of calamity and suffering from harsh effects of a severe dry spell.
