American shot by Cebuano rapper passes away


CEBU CITY – A known Cebuano rapper is facing graver charges after the American national that he admitted shooting died while being treated in a hospital here.

Police confirmed that Michael George Richey, 37, died on Tuesday afternoon, March 19.

Charges for frustrated murder and illegal possession of firearms have been filed against the suspect, Jed Andrew Salera, also known as Range 999.

With the death of Richey, the frustrated murder was amended to murder, said Police Major Romeo Caacoy Jr., chief of the Mabolo Police Station.

Salera admitted shooting Richey outside a bar within the premises of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Barangay Lahug here.

The incident happened past 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 17.

Salera alleged that he just defended his female friends from Richey’s rowdy behavior.

The fatal shooting incident was caught by a security camera. 

In the video, Salera was inside a vehicle when the American charged towards him. Salera opened the door in the driver’s side and was later seen shooting the American.

Salera was arrested shortly after the incident.

Caacoy said the American sustained a bullet wound in the chest.

A .45 caliber pistol was recovered during Salera’s arrest.
