All systems go for the biopic "Mamay: The Great Man of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte."

Produced by the man himself, Mayor Marcos Mamay, the film tells the story of a boy who dreams of overcoming poverty amid the rido-ridden hometown of Lanao.

"Many of my friends convinced me to produce a film about how I reached my current position. Hindi ito political. They said my story is very inspirational. Who would have thought that a person from humble beginnings could rise above his poverty? So, why not?" shares Mayor Mamay.

The honorable mayor oversees every detail of the movie, including its theme song, "Hamon," sung by Gerald Santos and composed by Vehnee Saturno.

"Personal choice ko talaga si Gerald. I was so impressed by Gerald's rendition of the song. I have been following his career. Nakakatuwa na pinagbigyan niya tayo to record the theme song despite his busy schedule. I was deeply moved when I heard the song. Of course, it was composed by the great Vehnee Saturno," says Mayor Mamay.

On his part, Gerald was also grateful for the opportunity to be part of Mayor Mamay's biopic.

Mayor Mamay ventured into film production because he foresaw a progressive cultural future, especially in moviemaking in Muslim Mindanao.

He strongly believes that the region is brimming with talents that can match those of Luzon. For this reason, he created his production outfit and now actively participates in the Actors Guild of the Philippines as an adviser under the chairmanship of Imelda Papin.

Last Feb. 17, Mayor Marcos Mamay was one of the guest speakers at the 2004 Alumni Homecoming of the Philippine Military Academy, along with Senate President Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senator Bato dela Rosa.

In his speech, the honorable mayor, himself an alumnus of the academy, saluted all who have faced the challenges of the prestigious military academy.

Mayor Mamay is the President of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP), Lanao del Norte chapter, and the National Vice President of LMP nationwide.

"Mamay: The Great Man of Nunungan" is slated for release soon in cinemas.  The film stars Jeric Raval, Ara Mina, and Julio Diaz.
