House Deputy Minority Leader and Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera has marked the beginning of this year's Women's Month celebration with a call to action for Filipinos.

“As we embark on Women’s Month, let us renew our collective commitment to the pursuit of gender equality and the empowerment of women,” Herrera said.

“Together, let us endeavor to cultivate a society where every woman and girl can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the advancement and prosperity of our nation," she added.

The country began its celebration of Women's Month Friday, March 1.

Since its inception in 1988, Women’s Month has served as a platform to recognize the invaluable contributions of women to Philippine society while shedding light on the persistent struggles they endure.

This month-long observance includes the worldwide celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, designated by the United Nations as an occasion to advocate for civil and human rights, as well as gender equality.

Herrera, a staunch advocate for women's rights and gender equality, recognized the significance of this month and the opportunity it presents to advance the cause of women in society.

“Women's Month serves as a reminder of the invaluable contributions women have made throughout history and continue to make in various fields, including politics, science, arts, and business,” Herrera said.

“It is a time to reflect on the progress achieved in promoting women's empowerment and to address the challenges that still persist,” she stressed.

Herrera strongly believes that “empowering women is not just a matter of fairness, but also a key driver of social and economic development"

Throughout her career as a legislator, Herrera has been a vocal proponent of legislation aimed at promoting women's rights and gender equality.

The BH Party-list solon has championed bills that seek to address gender-based violence, promote equal pay, enhance women's access to education and healthcare, and support women's entrepreneurship.

Notably, Herrera authored the landmark 105-Day Expanded Maternity Leave Act, which extended crucial support to working mothers across the nation.
