PBA legend Sean Chambers takes over as FEU head coach in UAAP

The 59-year-old, on top of his ongoing coaching stint with the TNT Tropang Giga, will rely on his wealth of experience as he seeks to steer FEU back to its glorious days in the collegiate scene.

“FEU Athletics is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Chambers as Head Coach of the FEU Tamaraws men’s basketball team. After a successful playing career in the PBA, Coach Sean is excited to return to the Philippines, his second home and brings with him a wealth of experience with a career dedicated to education, coaching, and mentoring the youth,” the post said. 

Chambers found himself for the first time in the local scene in 1989 and became the Alaska Aces’ resident import in the PBA which was a stint that lasted for 12 years – ultimately putting him as one of the most recognizable reinforcements Philippine basketball. 

His 2001 swan song eventually came with a jersey No. 20 retirement. 

“Over the years, I’ve closely observed the evolution and spirit of Philippine collegiate basketball, witnessing the remarkable growth and development of young players. I firmly believe there is ample opportunity for me to contribute to their journey towards reaching their fullest potential on and off the court,” Chambers said in the announcement.

“I am profoundly grateful and humbled by the opportunity to return to the Philippines as the head coach of the FEU Tamaraws.  It is an honor to collaborate with FEU management and coaching staff, in our collective mission to reignite the winning culture at FEU,” he continued. 

With Chambers at the helm, Denok Miranda will now become the head of the school’s basketball program which includes overseeing the development of the all teams from the junior high to the collegiate level. 

The Tamaraws last tasted the championship in 2015 and have since fallen off the grid in the past two season following back-to-back seventh place finishes. Their last Final Four appearance was in Season 84.
