Bangsamoro Mufti Sheikh Abdulrauf Guialani, together with other Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta  ulama and religious sectors, conducted moon sighting activities in Cotabato City, Maguindanao del Norte, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, and Iligan City.

Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is a month-long sacred time for Muslims around the world to reflect, pray, and fast as a means of spiritual discipline and strengthened faith.

BDI Executive Director, Emran Mohamad, urged the whole Muslim community to abide by the Bangsamoro Mufti’s declaration regarding the date of Ramadan’s commencement.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections said majority of voters ratified the creation of three new barangays in Marawi City on Saturday.

The Comelec said 2,121 or 93.73 percent of registered voters in Barangays Kilala, Patanu, and Dulay  voted “Yes” to create Barangays Panoroganan, Angoyao, and Sultan Corobong.

The poll body, which said the conduct of the plebiscite was successful, peaceful, and orderly, said only two voters in Barangay Patani voted “No” to the measure. Voting opened promptly at 7 a.m. ended as scheduled at 3 p.m.

The creation of three new barangays was necessary due to the increasing population since the Marawi siege in 2017, the Comelec said.
