Marcos said this after the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that two of the 15 Filipino crew members of Barbados-flagged bulk carrier M/V True Confidence died while another three were injured.

In an X post, the President said the victims and their families can expect assistance from the government as he offered his deepest sympathies to the loved ones of those who died in the missile attack.

He added that the government will exert all efforts to bring their remains home.

"I join the nation in offering our deepest sympathies to the families of the two Filipino seafarers who perished in the Houthi attack on True Confidence," Marcos said.

"I have instructed the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs), DMW-OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration), DOH (Department of Health), and DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) to provide assistance to the seafarers and their families," he added.

According to Marcos, the 13 surviving Filipino seafarers, including the three who were injured during the attack, are now safely in Djibouti and are being assisted by the Philippine Embassy in Cairo to return safely home as soon as possible.

President Marcos said the Philippines was one in calling for the end of the conflict and full respect for the principle of freedom of navigation.

Meanwhile, he reaffirmed the government's commitment to the safety and welfare of Filipino seafarers and overseas Filipino workers in the region.

The "True Confidence" was on its way from China to Jeddah and Aqaba, carrying a cargo of steel products and trucks when it was attacked by Houthi rebels about 50 nautical miles southwest of Aden.
