Las Piñas, Parañaque LGUs commemorate 79th liberation anniversary

The local governments of Las Piñas and Parañaque Cities held Holy Masses on Sunday, Feb. 4, in commemoration of the 79th anniversary of the city's liberation from Japanese occupation during World War II. 

Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar, who was represented by her Las Piñas Tourism and Cultural Office head Paul San Miguel, said the mass and wreath laying ceremony conducted as a tribute to the hero veterans who fought during the Second World War was led by regional Presidents of Veterans Federation of the Philippines-National Capital Region, Veteran Roberto C. Fernandez.

San Miguel said the Holy Mass at the Monument of Veterans located under the Zapote flyover in Barangay Zapote was also attended by several veterans whose names were engraved in the monument.

He said Las Piñas will continue to remember and respect the veterans who fought for the freedom and liberty of the city and the country.

In Parañaque City, the celebration of the liberation anniversary was led by Mayor Eric Olivarez with a mass and wreath laying at the monument located at Barangay San Dionisio,

Olivarez was joined by his brother, Congressman Edwin Olivarez in celebration of the anniversary of liberation.

The mayor paid respect to the city’s veterans who fought for the freedom of the people of Parañaque and the country during the Japanese occupation

Olivarez said sons and daughters of the veterans, and members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines joined the activity.
