PEÑARRUBIA, Abra – A 31-year-old lawyer drowned in a spring in Sitio Matit, Barangay Patiao, this town, on Saturday, February 24.

Police Capt. June Saliw-an, town chief of police, identified the victim as Princess Caroline Nichole Cancio Ibarra, of Barangay Rang-ay, Sinait, Ilocos Sur. Ibarra was the clerk of court of the Laoag City Regional Trial Court Branch 13.
Saliw-an said Ibarra arrived with his driver at Calm Spring to take photos and swim.
Her driver left and saw Ibarra drowning when he returned to the spring which was about 2.5 meters deep.
Ibarra’s driver called for assistance and rescuers brought the victim to a hospital in Bangued, this province, where she was declared dead.
Her remains were taken to their residence in Sinait.
The victim was a graduate of the University of Northern Philippines-College of Law in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur in 2020 and passed the 2020-2021 Bar exams conducted in February 2022 due to the pandemic.
The University of Northern Philippines-College of Law mourned the death of Ibarra.
“Our Law Community mourns the untimely demise of one of our alumna, Atty. Princess Caroline Nichole Cancio Ibarra,” the UNP-College of Law said in a Facebook post.
“She is adored by her classmates in law school, and she was an inspiration to countless Juris Doctor students,” it said. “You have left some wonderful memories that will never fade from the hearts of many. You are forever in our hearts, Atty. Bari. Rest with the angels.”
