On Feb. 18, the Taguig City government announced the guidelines on the use of e-trikes in the city for the safety of all road users.

It said that the Traffic Management Office and Land Transportation Office (LTO) will strictly enforce regulations on the use of e-trikes based on LTO Administrative Order 2021-039, or the  “Consolidated Guidelines in the Classification, Registration and Operation of All Types of Electric Motor Vehicles.”

Based on the order, the Taguig City government said all e-trikes are prohibited from passing national roads in the city such as C6, C5 and Kalayaan Avenue except for crossing.

In addition, e-trikes are barred from being used as public transportation and these are limited to just for personal use only.

“Hoping that this will be a strict implementation and we don't see any line of Ebike asking for a passenger in area of Taguig,” one netizen commented on the I Love Taguig Facebook page.

“Dapat bawalan din mga menorde eded na magdrive ng etrike (Minors should also be prohibited from driving e-trikes),” another netizen wrote.

Another posted, “Hari ng kalsada, kabahan na (The king of the road should now feel nervous).”

The city government said it is also prohibited to modify and change the design of an e-trike such as attaching a sidecar.

All drivers and passengers of e-trikes are also required to wear helmets.

In addition, all e-trikes are required to use the right side of the road to prevent blocking other vehicles and ensure orderly flow of traffic.

The city government also said that e-trikes can use bike lanes but these should maintain slow speed and give priority to cyclists.

“Mayroong karampatang parusa ang hindi susunod sa mga nabanggit na regulasyon (There will be appropriate punishment for those who will violate the said regulation),” the Taguig City government warned.
