The East Zone concessionaire said that the company recorded 23,701 new domestic connections from January to November 2023, surpassing its full-year goal of 19,898.

“As early as November 2023, Manila Water has already exceeded its projected water service connection target for 2023 by almost 20 percent,” the water concessionaire said in a statement on Friday, Feb. 16.

Manila Water has installed 1.18 million water service connections since 1997, comprising over 1.1 million domestic connections and more than 56,000 commercial or industrial connections.

“This development assures that its over 7.6 million customers are provided 24/7 clean and potable water,” Manila Water said.

The company also reported that its non-revenue water (NRW), which represents water lost due to leaks and illegal connections, continued to remain below the international standard.

As of the fourth quarter of last year, Manila Water's NRW stood at less than 15 percent, averaging at 13.59 percent. This rate outperformed the World Bank standard of 25 percent.

“The company also beefed up the installation of new sewer connections to protect community health and the environment,” Manila Water said.

At end-November, Manila Water provided sewer service to a total of 288,490 accounts and has laid and maintained a total of 468.41 kilometers of sewer lines.

Furthermore, the company emptied over 103,000 septic tanks from January to November of last year.

“In conjunction with the massive investment in water supply augmentation and building wastewater treatment plants, Manila Water is steadily expanding the reach of its water and sanitation services to the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal,” Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water director of corporate communications affairs group said.

“The company’s major goal is to provide 24/7 clean and potable water and top-quality sanitation to its growing customer base,” he concluded.
