Rescuer dies in Valentine’s Day motorcycle accident


BACOLOD CITY – A rescuer died in a motorcycle accident in Barangay 2, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Valentine’s Day.

Police identified the victim as July Jaruyan, 37, of Barangay Su-ay, Himamaylan City, and a member of the Himamaylan Rescue Team.

Police Lt. Col. Anthony Grande, Himamaylan police chief, said the victim suddenly slowed down when a dog crossed the road but he lost control over his motorcycle in front of a convenience store.

Grande said the victim hit his head on the ground and was declared dead in a hospital.

He said that the victim was probably speeding as he failed to control his motorcycle.

The City Emergency Operation Center was saddened over the death of their colleague.

“On behalf of our entire City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) family, we would like to express our sincere condolences to you and your family,” they said in a Facebook post.
