The Ayala Group has forged a private-public partnership with the Department of Education and Khan Academy that aims to boost the key competencies in the country by giving Filipino students and teachers access to 21st century digital learning.
In a statement, the group said Ayala Corporation, Ayala Foundation, Globe Telecom, and iPeople, together with iPeople schools National Teachers College and University of Nueva Caceres, formalized their partnership via a Memorandum of Understanding with DepEd and Khan Academy last week.
iPeople is the education joint venture between Ayala Corporation and iPeople majority owner House of Investments of the Yuchengco Group of Companies.
“DepEd is proud and grateful to stand shoulder to shoulder with these education partners. We can solve perennial challenges in education by drawing from the expertise of partners like Ayala Group and the cutting-edge vision of enterprises of the future like Khan Academy,” said Department of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara.
Ayala Corporation Director and Ayala Foundation Chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala said “we are delighted to support DepEd and Khan Academy in this very important Public–Private Partnership initiative to utilize the latest education technology to deliver high quality education to many Filipino learners in public and private schools.”
“This partnership is a testament to our collective vision of transforming education in the Philippines,” said Khan Academy President and CEO of Philippines Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine.
She noted that “by joining forces with the Ayala Group alongside the Department of Education, we are paving the way for innovative and inclusive learning solutions that empower Filipino students and educators alike.”
Aimed at strengthening learners' fundamental literacy and numeracy skills through Khan Academy's world-renowned online courses, key initiatives in the MOU include comprehensive teacher training programs, deployment of Khan Academy’s learning platform in Ayala-affiliated schools, internships and fellowships, and provision of critical digital infrastructure facilitated by Globe Telecom.
