A review of 'Moana 2'
At a glance
Our favorite characters have returned to give us another chapter in their story, and it’s enough to make you yell Cheehoo! Maui’s trademark will resound inside you once you finish watching Moana 2.
Taking place sometime after the first movie, we see Moana has taken to her new role in the tribe as the new Wayfinder, and now she’s taken up the age-old task of uniting the islands and their people, assuming, of course, she can find others out there.
Not an easy task, of course, but a lot less hazardous after returning to the Heart of Te Fiti to the goddess in the first film, making the oceans open again for exploration.
We have Moana and Maui back and our favorite ham and eggs duo, Hei Hei and Pua, otherwise known as boat-snack and boat-snack upgrade. With a bigger mission now, a bigger boat and crew must also come. Then, the fun became more intense with this movie, with new characters joining their band.
Auli ’l Cravalho reprises the role of Moana, and The Rock also comes back as the ever arrogantly lovable Maui. And just as before, proud Filipino-American singer and actress Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls fame reprises her role as Moana’s mother.
The film also continues to serve up great music, wonderful voices, and comedy galore. Moana’s family is bigger. In more ways than one. And here we have an extended answer to the age-old question, “How far will she go?” It turns out pretty far. Those who have watched the first movie repeatedly will look for the hidden easter eggs as our favorite Ocean moves on screen.
And by the end of the movie, a new question will arise… “Does this mean…?” “Is she or isn’t she?” You’ll see. Once you catch the nearest wave, watch the movie in theaters near you.
