Grade 5 pupil drowns in Laguna


CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – An 11-year-old Grade 5 pupil drowned after his head hit a rock while diving in the San Cristobal Dam in Barangay San Cristobal, this city, on Thursday morning, Dec. 5.

Police identified the victim as John Carlo Salcedo.

Investigation said the victim went swimming with a fellow Grade 5 pupil, Denson Padios, 12, in the dam.

The victim dived but accidentally struck his head on a rock and drowned.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office recovered the victim’s body.

Salcedo’s remains will undergo an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Farmer drowns

Meanwhile, a 59-year-old farmer drowned on a river in Atimonan, Quezon on Thursday afternoon.

Atimonan police chief Police Major Marnie Abellanida identified the victim as Joseph, married.

The victim’s wife said her husband crossed the river to go to the mountain amid the strong current and history of seizures.

Joseph’s body was discovered in Barangay Sapaan.

Police found no indication of foul play. Relatives of the victims refused an autopsy on the victim’s body.
