Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar directed the city’s Philippine National Police (PNP) to strictly implement City Ordinance 1484 which has been in effect since 2007 banning the use of all kinds of firecrackers during the celebration of the New Year.

Las Piñas City Police chief, Col. Sandro Tafalla, said a total of 467 police personnel were deployed around the city together with barangay personnel in 20 barangays for the strict implementation of the firecracker ban.

Tafalla said barangay personnel were ordered by Aguilar to conduct regular patrolling to monitor compliance with the ordinance.

He said the deployed police personnel will act on the arrest and confiscation of firecrackers and a report will be made to the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) on the violations.

Aguilar said the BPLO was told to dispatch personnel to confiscate all firecrackers and pyrotechnics being displayed, sold, and distributed within the city.

Violators of the city ordinance may be fined P1,000 to P5,000 or face imprisonment of up to 3 to 6 months.

The mayor said the city government has been implementing the city ordinance prohibiting the manufacture, display, sale, distribution, possession, or use of firecrackers, pyrotechnic devices, and other similar devices since 2017.

The City Health Office (CHO) was also directed to intensify the conduct of information campaigns about the danger of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices to life, limb, property, and the environment.

Meanwhile, community fireworks displays will be allowed provided that the organizers will secure a permit to possess and display fireworks from the local police and the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).

Fireworks displays shall be conducted in an open area at a distance of 100 feet away from the people and all fireworks shall be projected upward.
