PAGASA lists official names of tropical cyclones for 2025


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has identified the tropical cyclone names for this year.

The names of tropical cyclones assigned by the state weather bureau are listed in alphabetical order, excluding the letters Ñ and X.

The first tropical cyclone of the year will be named “Auring.”

Here is the list of tropical cyclone names for 2025, as identified by PAGASA:

  • Auring
  • Bising
  • Crising
  • Dante
  • Emong
  • Fabian
  • Gorio
  • Huaning
  • Isang
  • Jacinto
  • Kiko
  • Lannie
  • Mirasol
  • Nando
  • Opong
  • Paolo
  • Quedan
  • Ramil
  • Salome
  • Tino
  • Uwan
  • Verbena
  • Wilma
  • Yasmin
  • Zoraida

 

Meanwhile, PAGASA has also identified an auxiliary set of tropical cyclone names.

“Each set of regular names shall use its corresponding set of auxiliary names when the number of tropical cyclones for the season exceeds 25,” PAGASA said.

These auxiliary names include “Alamid,” “Bruno,” “Conching,” “Dolor,” “Ernie,” “Florante,” “Gerardo,” “Hernan,” “Isko,” and “Jerome.”

As of Jan. 1, PAGASA reported that there are no active tropical cyclones within or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Its latest weather forecast indicated that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is affecting the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan.

The shear line is also affecting the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon, while the northeast monsoon (amihan) affects the rest of Northern Luzon, PAGASA said.
