Ilocos Norte, Sur monitoring impact of 5.6-quake


LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – The Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction  and Management Offices are closely monitoring the impact of the magnitude-5.6 earthquake that rocked Ilocos Norte on Monday, Dec. 30.

“Initially, we had not yet received any report on damages caused by the quake in the province. However, close monitoring of local DRRMOs is continuing,” Ilocos Norte PDRRMO head Marcel Tabiji said.

Ilocos Sur PDRRMO chief Rhon Arquelada said that they are conducting assessment of buildings around Vigan City.

“As of the moment, we have not yet received any report on damages due to the quake. However, we have intensified monitoring on the 18 coastal towns in the province to anticipate any effect of the quake,” Arquelada said. “We remain on heightened alert after this quake,” he added.
