5,200 Iloilo, Guimaras farmers freed from agrarian debt


ILOILO CITY – A total of 5,201 farmers from Iloilo and Guimaras were freed by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) of their debts as Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs).

The DAR distributed Certificates of Condonation with Release of Mortgage (CoCRoMs) to ARBs in Iloilo before Christmas.

DAR Undersecretary Jesry T. Palmares, DAR-6 Regional Director Leomides R. Villareal, and Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. distributed the CoCRoMs.

The recipients were freed from their mortgage debt involving 5,465 hectares of farmland valued at P314.6 million.

Bulk was in Iloilo with more than P274.6 million and more than P40 million in Guimaras province.

The distribution was part of the New Agrarian Emancipation Act (NAEA) signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last July.

DAR also distributed 1,110 e-titles covering 879.98 hectares and 479 Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs) involving 473.97 hectares involving 351 ARBs.
