TACLOBAN CITY - The Department of Public Works and Highways  has issued a public advisory prohibiting heavy equipment vehicles from crossing the Biliran Bridge.

The bridge was seen shaking that may have been caused by the strong winds and huge volume of traffic going in and out of the province due to the holiday season on Monday, Dec.23.

In anticipation of the heavy volume of traffic and the presence of extreme windy conditions during the holiday season, certain restrictions have been put in place to ensure the safety of all road users.

These aim to reduce the load on the bridge and minimizing the risk of any potential damage or accidents.

Only light vehicles, including four-wheelers such as passenger vans, SUVs, and other similar and lighter types of vehicles, will be allowed to cross.

Buses carrying passengers were advised to unload their passengers prior to crossing the bridge.

Travelers were also strongly advised to cross the bridge one at a time and  exercise extreme caution.

The DPWH maintained that the bridge was recently inspected and passed their standards.

The department added that the bridge is passable and its capacity must be followed.
