CEBU CITY – Mystery surrounds the death of a 15-year-old girl in Oslob town, southern Cebu province who reported to the police that she was gang-raped before she died the next day.
Police Major Jude Librando Cebrero, chief of the Olob Police Station, said they are still investigating the death of the girl as well as her complaint that she was raped by a group of men.
Cebrero said part of the investigation is to gather camera footage to identify the last persons who were with the girl before the alleged sexual abuse took place.
The girl and her mother went to the police station on Dec. 12 to report that she was gang raped by persons that she didn’t know.
The girl told police that she was attending a fiesta when she was approached by a group of men and offered her a drink.
The girl said she was then brought to an unfamiliar place where the suspects took turns raping her.
Cebrero did not provide more details about the alleged rape as it is already being investigated by the Women and Children’s Protection Desk.
“Upon receiving of the information, police in Oslob helped her recall what really happened because she failed to provide some exact details. The victim was assisted but she was hesitant. There were some questions that she couldn’t answer,” Cebrero said.
On Dec. 13, Cebrero said they received a report that the girl died in their home.
Cebrero said they have asked the family to have her body autopsied to determine the cause of death and if she was raped.
The victim’s specimen has been sent to Camp Crame in Quezon City for an examination.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation. We have interviewed the family and other individuals who are with the victim,” said Cebrero.
Cebrero said they have yet to identify individuals who could be considered as persons of interest.
He added it was also uncertain if the girl committed suicide.
Cebrero said reports had it that the girl was found with bubbles coming out from her mouth and was declared dead when she was taken to a hospital.
