Aldrin Colonia gave the country its first gold medal after topping his weight division in the 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Doha, Qatar on Friday, Dec. 20.

The 17-year-old Colonia ruled the youth men’s -49kg class with a total lift of 213 kilograms, besting Vietnam’s Bui Minh Dao (204 kilos) and India’s Babulal Hembron (197kg).

The PH bet first registered 95 kilos from his second attempt in snatch and 118 kilos from his first attempt in clean and jerk to dominate the field.

Meanwhile, Prince Kiel Delos Santos delivered a silver in the men’s 55kg youth division and a bronze in the same weight class in the juniors with his 242-kilo total performance.

Delos Santos, who posted 110 kilos in snatch and 132 kilos in clean and jerk, settled behind eventual K’Duong of Vietnam, who posted an impressive 262-kilo total for the youth gold medal.

In the juniors, the PH lifter finished behind Vietnamese K’ Duong and Do Tu Tung (262 kilos).

Meanwhile, Angeline Colonia bagged the silver medal in the women’s -45kg junior with a 157-kilo total, even as Althea Bacaro also finished with a silver in the women’s -40kg youth with a 120-kilo total lift.

Contributing bronze medals were Rosalinda Faustino in the women’s -49kg youth and Alexandra Diaz in women’s -45kg youth.
