ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has urged the Department of Public Works and Highways to expedite work at the heritage district here.

In a letter dated Dec. 17 to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the mayor asked the agency to prioritize the completion of work on J.M. Basa St. or Calle Real that leads to the City Hall.
Work by the DPWH-Iloilo City District Engineering Office has caused traffic at the Central Business District.
J.M. Basa St. is a major road to offices of national government agencies as Iloilo City is the regional capital of Iloilo province.
“I implore your urgent intervention for speedy and expeditious completion of the project and to ease the heavy traffic in this area,” said Treñas.
The mayor said that District Engineer Roy C. Pacanan initially committed to finish work by Dec. 16. However, the deadline lapsed and asked that work be extended until Dec. 20.
“It appears that the district engineer has no sense of urgency and insensitive to the plight of the more than 500,000 residents of the city,” Treñas said.
