Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla called on the concerned local chief executives (LCE) to immediately enforce evacuation proceedings within the four to six-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) following the Kanlaon Volcano eruption, which is now under alert level 3 status.
In a statement, Remulla asked the local officials to particularly prioritize the relocation to safer grounds of the vulnerable sectors like pregnant women, children, senior citizens, persons with disability (PWD) among others.
Aside from the immediate evacuation, Remulla reminded the local officials and their respective disaster emergency response teams to prepare the necessary supplies such as food and non-food items and personal protective equipment (PPE).
“Temporary shelters should be arranged and support must be given to internally displaced persons who will stay with their relatives outside of evacuation centers,’’ Remulla stated.
Remulla gave strict orders that search and rescue teams, evacuation and medical services personnel must be on standby for immediate deployment in high-risk areas.
If the need arises, Remulla said that the LCEs in severely affected areas may promptly declare a state of imminent danger or calamity and the suspension of classes, office work, and travel.
“We enjoin LGUs to work closely with their respective Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMCs) to undertake the necessary measures as stated in the Operation L!STO Disaster Preparedness Manual for Kanlaon Volcano Eruption,’’ he added.
Remulla assured that the DILG will continuously provide the necessary assistance to the people affected by the Kanlaon Volcano eruption.
