BAGUIO CITY – Police recently arrested a 58-year-old man and his 30-year-old daughter here for alleged grave threats.
The Baguio City Cyber Response Team and Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit Cordillera Administrative Region implemented six warrants of arrest issued by Judge Isagani Gomez Calderon of the Regional Trial Court, First Judicial Region, Branch 8, La Trinidad, Benguet.
The suspects face charges for grave threats under the Revised Penal Code in relation to Republic Act 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Police said the suspects, who allegedly sent threats online, are under the custody of the Baguio City Cyber Response Team here for documentation and proper disposition prior to turnover to the issuing court.
Police Col. Larry Buansi, RACU-CAR chief, urged netizens to exercise caution when expressing themselves online.
He said that under the Cybercrime Prevention Act, threats — whether made in anger or jest — carry serious legal consequences.
