Manila Electric Company (Meralco) reported progress in restoring power to its service areas following the devastation caused by Tropical Storm “Kristine.”
As of Friday, Oct. 25, the number of affected customers has been reduced from 566,000 to approximately 360,000.
Joe Zaldarriaga, Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications stated that majority of the areas experiencing power interruptions are in Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas.
Meanwhile, other reports came from Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, and Quezon.
Meralco assured its commitment to restore electricity by deploying its crews and personnel, while also reminding the public to remain cautious when dealing with any electrical appliances and facilities.
“Following last night’s strong winds and torrential rains, we would like to ask for our customers’ patience and understanding as we have to follow protocols and prioritize their safety, especially in flooded areas,” Zaldarriaga said.
“Our crews are tirelessly working to restore services to most of the affected customers by the end of the day,” he added.
Those who wish to report any power-related concerns may contact Meralco through its social media pages or text via 0920-9216211 and 0917-5516211. The distribution utility’s hotline numbers are also open at 16211 and 8631-1111.
In a recent forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), “Kristine” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility this Friday afternoon but heavy rains and strong winds will persist.
