DOT constructing first tourist rest area in Antique

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Tourism (DOT) is constructing the first tourist rest area in Antique province.

“The initiative stemmed from the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to elevate the global competitiveness of the Philippine tourism industry by taking care of our tourists,” said DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.

The TRA in San Remigio town is a project of the DOT under attached agency Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).

The TRA is in collaboration with the local government unit (LGU) of San Remigio led by Mayor Margarito Mission Jr.

The TRA aims to bring comfort to travelers with clean restrooms, including shower areas, charging stations, and a pasalubong center.

It also features solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system.

Garcia said it aligns with the environmental advocacy of Sen. Loren Legarda and Antique Rep. AA Legarda.

According to DOT-6 Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez, this is the second TRA in Western Visayas region.  The first is under construction in Tubugan town, Iloilo province.
