Mayor Abby orders tight security measures for Christmas

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday, Dec. 3, to heighten security in the city as it expects an influx of people during the Yuletide season and to ensure the public's safety particularly in the Central Business District (CBD).

Aside from increasing visibility and deploying more police officers, the Mayor instructed the Makati police to strengthen  its coordination with the private sector and barangay authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, workers, traders, and visitors in the city.

"The safety and security of our residents and other stakeholders are our top priority. The city government is working closely with law enforcement and our private sector partners to make the Makati CBD a safe, vibrant space where people can thrive and enjoy the holiday season," Binay said.

She said Makati has recently launched a comprehensive plan to enhance security and maintain peace and order in the CBD, in collaboration with the Makati PNP,  Makati Central Estate Association (MACEA),  Makati Parking Authority (MAPA), and Ayala Land Inc.

Binay underscored the importance of public-private partnership in ensuring "swift and effective responses to any security concerns," citing the need for coordinated efforts among barangay officials, property managers, and security teams throughout the business district.

The plan includes increased patrol deployments by the Makati Police, Makati Public Safety Department, barangay watchmen, and personnel from MACEA.

"Regular consultations and collaborative meetings will be conducted to address emerging concerns and evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing security strategies," Binay explained.

In case of emergencies, the public may use the SOS feature of the Makatizen App or call the Makati Command Center at 168. These platforms ensure fast and reliable assistance for urgent concerns.

“Our efforts go beyond addressing immediate concerns. We are dedicated to sustaining a safe and inclusive environment for all Makatizens, ensuring that Makati remains a model city of safety and innovation,” the mayor noted.
