West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. is nearing completion of its CAMANA (Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas) Water Reclamation Facility, which will improve services in South Caloocan, Malabon, and Navotas.
In a statement on Tuesday, Dec. 3, Maynilad announced that the P10.5 billion facility is expected to be finished by 2025 and is currently 83 percent complete.
Located in Maypajo, Caloocan City, this infrastructure will enhance sewerage services in neighboring areas and serve around 1.2 million residents by treating approximately 205 million liters of wastewater per day.
The water reclamation facility is part of the concessionaire's goal to improve wastewater management. Maynilad currently operates 23 treatment sites with a total capacity of 684 million liters of wastewater per day.
In addition, Maynilad is laying 77 kilometers of sewer pipelines to collect wastewater from households and establishments in the area, which will be directly conveyed to the treatment facility.
As the project nears completion, Ramoncito Fernandez, Maynilad president and chief executive officer, expressed his belief that this, their largest wastewater treatment facility, would significantly boost water services to the three cities.
"This project is part of our commitment to investing in infrastructure that expands sewer coverage and creates cleaner and healthier communities," he said.
The facility adheres to the guidelines and standards of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the utilization of Modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE) Conventional Activated Sludge technology. This innovation removes pollutants before discharging the treated water into the Maypajo Creek, which flows into Manila Bay.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It serves several areas in the western part of Metro Manila, including portions of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and Cavite. Its service area also includes Bacoor, Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario in Cavite Province.
