Tingog Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre argued that the alleged “credible threat” to Vice President Sara Duterte’s life was nothing more than a figment of her own imagination following the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) report that it had not received any information onsuch claim.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Dec. 3, Acidre pointed out that several law enforcement agencies have reported that there were no existing threats to the life and security of Duterte.
“Kung wala hong makapagtibgay na iba, eh siguro po nasa isip lang ho ng Bise Presidente (If no one else can verify, maybe it's only in the mind of the Vice President). All these perceived threats are all in the mind of the Vice President,” said Acidre, a deputy majority leader.
The lawmaker emphasized that verbalizing alleged threats without clear evidence was “grossly irresponsible”.
Acidre noted that Duterte—as the country’s second top official—should first provide evidence to the threats against her life. Without such proof, he said this would lead to “greater instability” in the country.
“Kung meron mang pagbabanta, isa lang ang narinig natin nagbigay ng pagbanta. Ang nagbanta lang ang Vice President,” he added.
(If there was a threat, we only heard one person make a threat. The Vice President issued a threat).
Duterte earlier admitted to having contacted an assassin to kill President Marcos, his wife, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez on the event that she gets killed.
The Vice President later clarified that her remark was not a threat, but rather an emphasis regarding the alleged threat to her life. She said these threats were well documented with videos.
The PNP on Monday said they have yet to received these documents.
