The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of Ilocos region issued Wage Order No. RB 1-23 on Oct. 9 mandating the wage rate for the agriculture sector at P468 for establishments with 10 or more employees from P435.

On the other hand, establishments in the agriculture sector and non-agriculture sector with less than 10 employees are paying P435 from P402.

The RTWPB-1 has also issued Wage Order No. RB 1-DW-05 increasing the monthly minimum wage of “kasambahays” or domestic workers by P500 from P5,500 to P6,000.

In line with existing laws and procedures, the wage orders were submitted to the National Wages and Productivity Commission for review and were affirmed on Oct. 16.

The wage orders were published on Oct. 22  and took effect on Nov. 7.

The RTWPB-1 said the wage hike aims to alleviate the impact of inflation and provide a better standard of living for workers in the region.

It considered various socio-economic factors, including the inflation rate, consumer price index, and poverty threshold, in the decision.

The wage increase is also part of the government's efforts to ensure fair compensation for workers and promote economic growth in the region.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the NWPC will monitor compliance of the new wage rates.
